2017, colour pastel and graphite on paper, 7 x 5 inches
This work was inspired by the lips of some of Da Vinci’s subjects, in specific those of the Ginevra De Benci, the Mona Lisa and the Lady With an Ermine. I find the mouth to be the most seductive body part on a woman. Here I attempt to capture the beauty of an ambiguous smile, the subtle play of the light on the face and colouring on the lips. Beauty is a glimpse of the divine and sets us free from the ugliness of life.
