2016, charcoal, pastel, graphite on paper, 18 x 24

Melancholy is a painting inspired by the engraving Melancholia by Dürer. Here I have eliminated the higher matters of interest in the original engraving, the subject of Melancholy is concerned with the self, unmoved and cast into perpetual sadness and self reflection by the ever present Doubt. Doubt, slithers like a deceitful consultant, pointing to the observer.
